I had come across HTML Dog some time ago and finally got around to giving it a second look. I am impressed with what they have done with the site. It is very user friendly. The lessons are short and to the point. It is an ideal place for beginners to start. Because the website layout is neat and clean, it makes it much more accessible to beginners than W3schools (which is still highly recommended, I just hate all the ads everywhere).

The site breaks down into six simple sections:

Two things I appreciate: 1) they advocate hand coding. Hand coding is the very best way to learn and the very best way to continue to code a website. 2) They start users off using the XHTML 1 strict standard. I recently just made the attempt to make this site compliant to the strict standard and it was a great learning exercise.

Anyway, beginners put HTML Dog on your favorites and get started creating your own website!
