Symantec versus Microsoft
by Paul Flyer
The devil is in the details on this one.
The recent lawsuit against Microsoft filed by Symantec claims that Microsoft has (again) stepped over legal boundaries and is asking a judge to stop development of Windows Vista.
The controversy swirls around Symantec’s purchase of Veritas and a 1996 agreement between Microsoft and Veritas.
I am not qualified to even remotely speak to the legal issues involved here. My sole purpose in even posting about is to lament the fact that there is not another “highly” competitive OS in the marketplace. Yes, OS X is the closest competition but I wouldn’t call it highly competitive. On the other hand, maybe stronger competition would make Microsoft behave even more badly.
