Alternative Web Browsers
Most web developers are tired of IE. The biggest complaints rising from this community are twofold: its lack of consistent web standards and its security problems. The typical user is finding that there are other browsers that provide a better browsing experience.
Thinking about switching to an alternative web browser? The following is a list of available options. It is by no means exhaustive. Please add comments if there is one that should appear on this list. I have not tried all of these. My own personal recommendation, especially for the beginner, is Firefox.
First Tier
These browsers have a decent sized community of users that provide a fair amount of support.
- FireFox - the tabbed browsing experience is hard to beat
- Opera – from most accounts, a soild piece of browser programming
- Mozilla/SeaMonkey – not just a browser but a suite that includes an email client
- Flock – the social browser.
- Safari – the #1 Mac choice
- Camino - another Mac mainstay
- Konqueror – seems to be the primary browser used by Linux users.
- Galeon – another Linux browser
Second Tier
These browsers have user communities that are not as large as those in tier one, but still are worthwhile to consider.
- K-Meleon
- 3bB- view the web in 3D, sorta.
- My First Browser - Browser for children, parents control accessible content.
- Window Surfer – another tabbed browsing option.
- Maxthon – another tabbed browsing option.
- Avant – another tabbed browsing option.
- Crazy Browser – tabbed browser, can cascade or tile tabs
- icab – mac browser
- omniweb – mac browser
- Epiphany – linux browser
