With any online tutorials I recommend beginners have a text editor open and follow along as they read. The key is not only to read but do the exercises!

HTML is very easy to learn and I contend any one who is adept at using a word processor can learn HTML. CSS does add a level of complexity. However, beginners just need to start simple. Avoid looking at the fanciest sites on the net and trying to replicate it in the first try.
