Installation of Grouper RSS Feed Generator
by Paul Flyer
Official Installation instructions for Grouper can be found here.
Installation is fairly simple.
- Download the grouper zip file.
- Unzip the file. The files are unzipped into a folder named “grouper”. This folder and its contents will be uploaded to the webserver.
- Choose a location for the grouper folder that is not accessible by a web browser. This means the grouper folder should be installed at the same level as the public_html folder; not within it. Upload the grouper folder and all its contents to this level.
- Upload groupersetup.php (this was included in the zip file) to the webserver at the root directory (i.e. it is accessible by typing www.yoursite.com/groupersetup.php).
- Browse to www.yoursite.com/groupersetup.php
- The screen should populate with a summary of actions that grouper accomplish:
- Checking your server’s PHP version…Pass
- Checking your server’s PHP function support…Pass
- etc.
- Grouper will test itself by trying to generate a newsfeed. If it accomplishs this, then Grouper is set up correctly. Grouper will display the newsfeed on the page to show that a newsfeed generation was successful.
- Delete groupersetup.php and groupersetupinc.php from the server
- Grouper is now installed.
If the automatic setup does not work try the following:
Create a folder within the grouper folder called “rsscache”. Make sure the rsscache folder is writable by Grouper. Typically this is at least 700. Depending on sever configuration this may have to be 777.
