Don’t buy anything before you learn more!
Please read this article in full before you go off and purchase search engine optimization software.
I hope the following proves to be sound search engine optimization information. Of anything on this site, I would love to hear from you if this article has provided quality search engine optimization help. Please email me.
Search engine optimization help often comes in two forms:
- 1) The Big Sell
- 2) The Complex and Mysterious
Attempts to “sell” search engine optimization software are really of no true help. These marketers are trying to sell something, not help. When it comes to SEO, learn more about it before buying the latest SEO gizmo. If you have read through several of the articles on this site you will note my emphasis on learning. Though it is true that we all need tools and services to complete tasks more efficiently and quickly, it is also true that we can better use those tools if we understand and learn the underlying processes. Let me state unequivocally that there is no need to go out and blindly purchase search engine optimization software that will cost $100 plus (sometimes much higher!). Just like anything else that someone will try to sell, take a step back, relax, review, reconsider and learn more.
Some articles on search engine optimization are written for those “in the know”. Replete with complexity and mystery for those of us whose days are not filled reading the latest industry inside scoop. After much reading and searching I have found a few resources that have been extremely helpful to me and am now passing these on.
If you have gotten the rush of SEO craze out of your head and the “I MUST buy that cool SEO software” syndrome cleansed from your system, please read on.
BruceClay offers four helpful articles on search engine optimization that are absolute must reads. Read all five, then read them again. Then read them again. There is no better introductory education to search engine optimization anywhere.
Read in order, the following:
- Why is SEO so Hard? - This article explores the environment of the search engine optimization industry and the challenges faced by those seeking higher page rankings. Don’t feel discouraged after reading this article. Remember a few things: the web is a marketplace that has more than enough room for you. Take the time to learn and you can succeed. Second, once you learn about SEO and put some of the basic principles into practice, you will find that you can do it!
- Search Engine Promotion Tactics - Building on the previous article, this one gets a little more practical on how to accomplish marketing and search engine optimization goals.
- Search Engine Optimization - This article will provide all the nitty gritty details of optimizing any website. It explains in twelve steps the elements to be accomplished in order to optimize a webpage. SEO is definitely work. However, it is work that can definitely payoff in the long run. There is a lot of detail to pay attention to and at first the detail can be overwhelming. Over time, a natural rhythm develops and soon all webpages are seen thru the lens of “optimization.”
- Search Engine Relationship Chart - This is not so much an article as it is…well, a chart. This chart shows how the major search engines are connected. This chart also shows the folly behind the claims of some companies that will submit a website to a gazillion search engines. The engines on this chart are the only ones that matter. Even at that, there are truly only three that feed the rest of the search engine world.
There are tools to help with this particular work. But do not pay the premium prices that the Big Sellers are offering to you. There are plenty of low cost, if not free, SEO tools available that can keep your task manageable. Check out Webmaster-Toolkit or Marketleap.
Keep in mind, the spirit of this site is not about dishing out large amount of dollars.
See the progression I have made? First, I pointed out resources where you can learn about SEO. Second, pointed out free tools where the concepts of SEO can be explored. Third, pointed out a low cost tool that can make much of the tedious work much more manageable. From there a decision can be made to invest in more premium tools. Just don’t jump in head first! Following the above advice not only will save a few dollars, but will provide an solid beginning education in search engine optimization.
If you are simply looking for search engine optimization tip that will make life on the web a little easier, then my recommendation is of no use. But you will find, as many have, that you will jump from one SEO tool to another continually searching for that magic bullet. Save the pain (and money) and get educated first.
