This website has sat on the servers of only two web hosts in its history. While the first host provided excellent service, there comes a time when good is a far cry from excellent. I currently use Hostgator which has proven to be almost rock solid from a reliability standpoint.
I monitor my web site for downtime. Maybe once in the last year has there ever been a problem. Previously, the website would have downtime problems at least weekly. Seriously, if your website means ANYTHING TO YOU AT ALL, choose a reliable host. I offer my recommendation, Hostgator based on my experience over the last year (2008).
What does Hostgator offer?
The Business Plan
- $12.95/month
- Unlimited Bandwidth
- Unlimited disk space
- Unlimited domain names
- Unlimited MYSQL databases
- Unlimited email accounts
Unlimited websites can share unlimted stuff! If hosting multiple websites, the cost of hosting each is greatly reduced.
Hostgator meets all the criteria mentioned in our main web hosting article.
Isn’t their a danger in hosting multiple websites on the same account?
Well yes, of course. There are a number of pros and cons to the issue. The biggest pro is saving money. The biggest con is downtime. If the server goes down they ALL go down. However, if a reliable web hosting company is chosen, this should not be a problem. Larger sites should be moved to their own dedicated server. However, it makes sense to maintain small sites under an umbrella.
The first line of support offered by Hostgator is their online chat support. I have been able to talk to a customer service rep within 2 minutes of connecting. They have always been able to answer my questions. Beats email since the chat response and answer is almost immediate. Reliability and customer service is what will keep a web hosting company afloat.
I completely recommended Hostgator to beginners wanting to find a reliable host.
